I Never Walk Alone

What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

The moments that challenge us are the ones that have the most value. The experiences that reveal our limitations and the need we have for a greater source of strength and wisdom, God, are the ones where we see the greatest growth in our journey.

This is an unplugged song from the ‘Chapel Songs’ album. It was inspired by Psalm 139 quite a few years ago. Since that time it’s been a staple of my repertoire. Hopefully it continues to strengthen and reassure those who are hurting, doubting, and living in a fearful world.

Lyrics:
I never walk alone
You linger by my side
I never walk alone
You are with me

You go before me and follow me
You place Your blessing on my head
You hem me in behind and before
You lay Your hand upon my head

We Belong to the Day

What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?

There are no throw away days. There are no days that don’t count for something. There are no days where you aren’t being held accountable. There just aren’t! You see, each day is yours, It’s yours to fulfill His plan in your life. It’s yours to make a difference in the world. Each and every day is numbered and carefully planned for you to prosper. So get up, you belong to the day. Linger in His presence, and be saved! Be free! Be healed!

Pray on…

Dig Love!

If you had a freeway billboard, what would it say?

Oh, without a doubt, it would say Dig Love! It’s my belief that above all, that’s what’s wanting in our world, we just don’t seem to care about each other anymore, we have discounted the value of human life.

With just one voice, love can be heard
With just one hand, love can be felt
With just one smile, love can be seen
With just one heart, change can begin
Dig love

Someday

Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?

I spend the majority of my time attempting to live in the moment. It’s an outgrowth of trying to be more mindful. I can’t change the past, and I have little to no control of the future, so it’s the minute at hand that has the most to offer me.

The future is a very fragile and unpredictable thing. We have no way of assuring how each day, let alone our week, or year, will turn out with any certainty. I was reflecting on this and the use of the word someday when I wrote this song. I was thinking about how we often refer to someday in describing our future dreams and endeavors. My parents always spoke of someday as in my future, down the road, and spiritually God also does, but life has an uncanny way of sneaking up on us when we least expect it.
Someday was oh so later
Someday was down the road
But someday just happened to me now

My Alms

What motivates you?

My motivation each and everyday is to serve and give back simply because I’ve been so blessed. I love on others because I was first loved. I know it can sound too sweet at times, but the truth is the truth, and that’s the honest …

My Alms – from the Chapel Songs album.

Let my love be my mark…
Be my mark in this world
Let my love be my alms…
Be my alms to the Lord

Evanesce

What do you enjoy most about writing?

I really enjoy writing as a way to serve creation. I find myself almost daily moved to share the beauty and diversity that’s on display. For me, the satisfaction is in the communication, the entertaining, lifting or enlightening possibility… if only just for a moment.

Home Again

What do you love about where you live?

I love that I have been blessed to settle into two very creative settings. One in Bucks County, PA, and another on a barrier island in Brevard County, FL. Both homesteads are remote without being out-of-touch with society, and offer a personal connection to nature. What I love the most is that I’ve found them both to be spiritually inspiring places to call home.

When my path is straight
And love replaces hate
Don’t you know
I’m home again

Beautiful Day

What positive emotion do you feel most often?

I wake each day feeling blessed. When I take an honest look at my life I see providence. My life is a web, one thread after another, of fortunate occurrences that I have had nothing to do with. Mind you I do have free will and have had to make decisions throughout my journey, but the overriding opportunities seem to have the fingerprints of another.

And so yes I often feel blessed. Yeah, it rains from time to time, but even the occasional darkness always gives way to light sooner or later, and the underlying fact is that each day is beautiful in it’s own way, and there lies the blessing.

I Can’t…

What is a word you feel that too many people use?

I just hate to hear someone say I can’t. As in, I can’t do this; I can’t do that; I can’t say that. In a world of ambiguity that word just rings of negativity. Whenever I hear some say I can’t, I hear God say I can.

When you move irrelevant
When you’re the hued elephant
When you hear yourself exclaiming, “I can’t!”
Walk in Canaan
